V.A.
Aurora
1x CD Merck
Freestyler Bartie who is keeping very close eyes on everything that moves into the world of ambient electronics brought the very obscure Merck label to my attention. See http://www.m3rck.net Wanting to know what is was all about, I finally obtained a copy of the Merck compilation Aurora to get an idea of what this was all about. Make no mistake, Aurora is a serious ambient album for the serious chiller. No real melodic tracks on this compilation but more dark soundscapes. But Aurora clearly more that the average noise filled ambient CD. Get a perfect example of this with Oblique and Construction and experience its scary darkness. It creatively blends creepy voices & scary sounds. Or Phonex with a somehow lighter approach of sublte synth play on melancholic soundscapes. Lackluster is featured as well and the track Onuj would perfectly fit for an underwater or deep space documentary. A short track, but killer atmosphere is brought by Kiyoshi Ono and Coil. Just let the bizarre cosmic electronics fill your room. Equally futuristic sounding is SoundState and "Ebbticle Moon", a 9 minute long spacey story. There is more to discover on Aurora and we'll leave this to you. It fills us with happiness and joy to see the ambient scene is these days again very vibrant and alive after it reached its height perhaps in 93-94 and then quickly imploded. Todays artists have found new creativity and energy to bring us interesting electronics experiments and the Merck label is doing an excellent job of providing these artists with an Outlet. Check out this album and more from Merck.
