Le nouveau du jazz
1x CD Irma
In the continous quest for amazing pieces of musical art, sometimes all the hard hunting work is rewarded with the pure listening pleasure we all enjoy so much. As you might have guessed, this was the case with the "Le nouveau du jazz" compilation by Matteo Sala on Irma Records. It's clear that Matteo Sala has an excellent taste for deep jazz-funk inspired gems. A little strange is the inclusion of 2 original eighties tracks but given the selection this is a more than welcome addition to the other 9 new releases. Matteo presents Roy Ayers and "Love Fantasy" and Marvin Gaye's "Sanctified Lady". By naming these 2 artists you should already be convinced of the track selection quality on this compilation.
But anyway, let's delve a little deeper into Le Nouveau du jazz. We find Cybophonia and "Cut & Paste". A futuristic intelligent funk track that has a spacey deepness all over it. Not for regular dancefloors this one, rather for smokey backrooms. Domu and "Spy Eyes" is a fast paced percussion driven nu funkjazz track. Watch out for Seiji and "Question It". It has the People Records & IG Culture flavour all over it. Sources say that Seiji on Bitasweet Records is from the same crew of IG Culture. Although we have no confirmation on this, one should certainly agree on hearing the complex funk futurizm or is it future funkizm ? You choose! It's eclectic for sure, so we look, listen and all agree it's great. The same funkiness can be found in G.K. Deep and "Morning light in the Dark", originally released on People Records. Then finally, we would personnaly select Tanzmuzik and "Lane" as the absolute masterpiece of the compilation. It has a deep mysterious long and spacey intro and eventually evolves into delicious futuristic jazzfunk flavours.
The italian Irma label is known for releasing lots of material, not all high quality, but "Le nouveau du jazz" really stands out. Give us more Matteo Sala !!
