| Ben Harper Sexual Healing |
It has always been the intention of the Freestylegrooves website to bring
the positive message of nothing but good music and ignore the 98.5% of crap
sounds produced. But sometimes, one can go too far, much too far and destroy the
image of a piece of music that has deserved its place in musical history. Of
course, we're talking about Sexual Healing from Marvin Gaye. "Sexual Healing" was
simply a stunning masterpiece of its time. The artist Marvin Gaye created a very
soul full, warm and erotic pearl of music. Everything in "Sexual Healing" fitted
perfectly together, the sexually appealing rythm, the soulfull voice of Marvin, the
overal warmth of the track ... Could you imagine my surprise when hearing the interpretation of this masterpiece from someone calling himself Ben Harper . Gone is the soulfullness, gone is the erotic and sensual feeling of the track, gone is the uplifting rythm. Ben Harper destroys it all with his interpretation. His voice is a miserable attempt to put any sensuality in the track. It's more a whining teenager nerd than anything else. His guitar completely misses the original feeling and intent of the track. In fact there is nothing, absolutely nothing that ressembles the real feeling of the original Sexual Healing. It is clear that this Ben Harper creature has never understood the real feeling, mood and temper of Marvin Gaye's masterpiece. It is incredible how someone can destroy a masterpiece. Now, it's also no surprise that I discovered this miserable imitation of Ben Harper on our national Radio 1. Radio 1 has never been renowned for good musical taste but shows every sign of being sponsored by Prozak or whatever anti depressiva. Either the people of Radio 1 are all in constant deep depression or have high incentives to drive everyone depressive. The track of Ben Harper demonstrates this how originally positive uplifting happy music is turned into near depression state of noise. As our Freestylegrooves motto is being positive, we end this review with a positive recommendation : checkout Marvin Gaye's pearl Sexual Healing and ignore failing interpretations. ez/apr 2001 |
