Soulstance
Act On
1xCD Schema
We were already very surprised with the En Route album from Soulstance on Schema, guess we were curious to find out about this new release. Well, without a doubt we can say Soulstance did a nice job on making a new album that continous the stylish relaxing grooves of the En Route album but escapes at the same time the typical "more of the same" feeling. This is mostly done by subtly bringing in some new elements and directions. There is a more housy touch on Essential Spices. The typical Soulstance flute sound is still there but the rythmic groove is straight and fluid. The opening tracks "Blue Grassland" and "The Aftermath of Love" has the clever position introducing the familiar En Route sound with nice elaborated smooth jazz grooves.
But there is a side of Soulstance exploring more into latin sounds as well here. Take "Kickin' samba", "Mutantes" or "Grasping" that nicely
blends the Soulstance sound with brazilian flavoured samba touches. Finally, some of the tracks feature that warm sunny acid jazz sound with perhaps Mainstream the most perfect example. As if rays of sunshine pop out of your cd player.
We are happy to say that Soulstance delivered again a superb album of uncompromising fine jazzgrooves. Now, the one thing we look forward to is a live concert of Soulstance, that would bring summertime on the coldest winterday here in Belgium.
