![]() PLOD Pillow Talk Worm Interface |
Every once in a while, you discover an album that you can't stop listening to. No matter how many times you play it, it never gets boring ... Pillow Talk is definitely one of those albums. With this debut album, Plod joins the growing number of Scandinavian artists who are releasing quality electronics: Lackluster, Dub Tractor, Bauri, ... Although it's sometimes said the new league of electronica producers lack a unique sound, this is surely not the case with Plod. Of course they build on the foundations made by pioneers -like Autechre, Plaid, Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin- but if you ask me there are some significant differences. For one thing, they really concentrate on the melodies. By placing bright, delicate melodies on the foreground and putting the rhythmic structures somewhat more to the background. This adds a real lush and airy feel to the music. It just sounds different, and I love it! Not that it matters, but there are some pretty weird/funny track titles like: "What happens to the hole when the cheese is gone", "That stench again, it must be wednesday", "Which is stronger - karate or the tiger?" They also have some great tracks featured on various compilations: Smakfull Elektronik (saundart), Cottage Industries (neo-ouija), Alt Frequencies 3 & 4 (worm interface), ... Say Vegin |
