![]() V.A. Winter Chill 2 2xCD Hed Kandi |
Regular visitors of the FreestyleGrooves website will maybe remember
that about one year ago, me myself and I tried to share my enthousiasm
for the Hed Kandi Winter Chill compilation. After one year, Winter Chill
still stands as a rock as superb chillout compilation for these tranquil peacefull moments for relaxing or other more exciting things. The first Winter Chill brought us gems such as 45Dip and "Searching for Marden Hill", A man called Adam and "Wouldn't She" and so much more. One year later, Hed Kandi prepared his follow up compilation for this winter, being Winter Chill 2, so you'll understand that we looked forward to hear what hidden treasures Hed Kandi would bring us this time. In this respect, the disappointment with Winter Chill 2 is as big as our enthousiasm was for Winter Chill 1. We cannot hide the feeling that Hed Kandi was in a quick & easy money mode when making this compilation. Where the first compilation had deep touching tracks, Winter Chill 2 doesn't offer anything that goes even skin deep. Hed Kandi quickly throws in a cheap selection here. There is another AfterLife and 45Dip track of which every serious chiller has already bought the full albums. There is an LTJ Bukem, Chicane, Tosca and Thievery Corporation track which are featured on almost any -let's make some money- lounge compilation these days. Then there is Moby and Paul Van Dyk, 2 artists who have been realizing way too late that their own trance music with which they started it all over 5 years ago was as dead as Elvis and now jump on the trendy lounge area with some ultra cheap formulaistic copies. We cannot blame Moby or Paul Van Dyk for trying to stay in the spotlights, but Hed Kandi is to blame here for not selecting the cream from the crop. What's more on Winter Chill 2 ? Well, unfortunately not much more except lots of meaningless poppy loungy cheap hacks with plenty of vocals. Maybe only music enthousiasts will understand this (and we excepted Hed Kandi to understand this as well) but one for one these are nicely sounding tracks that do not touch the slightest braincell. As a result, Winter Chill 2 gets our label "To avoid". There are much better and more original compilation of this type to pass your winter days this year. Browse the FreestyleGrooves pages for some fine selections. And as far as Hed Kandi is concerned, we can only hope he will return to the stylish and fresh selections he used to offer rather than going into quick cash style. ez nov/2000 |
