![]() V.A. Dub plates from the Lamp 1xCD Pork |
Without a doubt you're browsing these pages because you're as
always on the look for something fresh, stylish, pure, creative and unique. Just as we do, not being satisfied with quick hacks
or cheap imitations, you're looking for that little more. Rest assured that you're not wasting your time reading this review of
one of the greatest outlets on the Pork label recently. Yes, this is a compilation on the Pork label and we all remember the essential
"Sty Wars" and "A taste of
Pork" from past years. We feel that once again Pork sets a milestone with "Dub plates from the Lamp".
First of all we need to make clear that the compilation doesn't contain any real dub-music. That said, it's equally difficult to
put a label on the music we find here. It's a rich coctail of music inspired by jazz, ambient-electro, soundscape melodies, trip hop...
really difficult thus. Apparently as the booklet says, the compilation
is a series of tracks that were well tasted at a pub called The Lamp and sure we taste them with equal enthousiasm here at home. Looking
for any wellknown eye-catcher artists on this album ? No, don't try, as we said earlier, this isn't the quick hack which would put without
a doubt some Nightmares on Wax hit to get the attention. Here, music is key. So, what's on this album then ? First of all, 2 more excellent tracks of Unforscene, being "Sunbear and the orange light" and "Z". Unforscene offers an ultimately well-balanced mixture of triphop and soft jazzy & groovy influences. Typical for Unforscene is that melancholic feel that is deeply touching. There is some light trip-hoppish junglism in the coctail as well, with Kennedy and "Belize", The Anhtome project and "Pie oh pie" or Free Drinks and "Box sound", slightly reminding us of the very first soft jungle d'n'b triphop music on the scene in the mid nineties. Well done and again, music deeply filled with emotions. Another gem on this compilation is Jeremy Beecher and "Passtime", offering unique blend of classic violin arrangements on triphop beats to start with and transitioning to a funky groove trip. There is much more to discover on Dub plates from the Lamp but we leave that to your own experience, we can only highly recommend this tastefull compilation of intelligent chillout music. ez nov/2000 |
