![]() Minus 8 Elysian Fields 1x CD Compost |
Ok, this is a Compost release of the swiss based Minus 8, so you
should know what to expect, isn't it ? Yes, loungy future jazz sounds and for sure that's what Minus 8 is giving us in this very
consistent album. A few tracks even really stand out from this otherwise stylish album such as "Circles Burning" bringing us
smooth jazzy vibes with ample strings, rhodes and hammond keyboards. Not all of Minus 8 is tranquil. The pace goes up towards the middle of the album with heavy percussion oriented tracks like "Driven" or "Starstruck". More or less a bit with the Kruder & Dorfmeister approach are further tracks like the magnificent "Sarug & Terah", offering soft nice fluts embedded in warm beats or "Beyond material" in which airy jazzy piano and keys make up for a great track. Minus 8 doesn't shy away for vocals as well on "Snowblind", "Cold Fusion" & "Sellafield", both showcasing the talent of female vocalist Billie, although "Sellafield" is the only really disappointing carnavalesk track which doesn't really fit in this otherwise nice album. ez/aug 2000 |
