Frank Martiniq
pmf acht
1x CD Mehrwert records
Talking about albums that can create a complete atmosphere on their own, this one nicely fits in this category. It's good to see people experiment with sounds, applying them somewhat in retro minimal techno style, somewhat in electro style but certainly with enough futuristic style to be interesting. The overall atmosphere of "pmf acht" is rather dark and adds some industrialism again. The sounds can be crispy and hard at times, the rythms remain slowly paced and keep this album in the category of chillout music. It's the kind of music that reminds us vaguely of the Apollo compilation series, the early Spacetime Continuum sound or the weirdness of an early Future Sound of London track. Check out "Blu:na" and "Nostalgie digitale" for
cold but moody synths on a deep slow murmling bass. Or take a track like Noir or Grun that have the rythm of Maurizio but add enough weird sound effects to have a feeling that set it apart. "Dropsucht" comes close to a pure electro track and then there is "Bitmanie" which is a completely different beast where Frank Martiniq totally celebrates his creativity with continous weird synth effects on an almost hip hop paced beat. Nicely done! Hoping we created some interest here to go check out this album in a record store.
