Irma decided three is not enough and added a fourth
edition to their Chill Out Cafe series, titled of course volumen quattro. Now, what's in the store for
us, lounge & chill freaks ? Well, I believe it's fair to say that volumen quattro is currently the best of the series with the most consistent selection of loungy vibes. Irma throws in some big names as well, like Don Carlos, Ohm Guru, AtJazz and Black Mighty Wax. Well, hmmmm, big names, sure, this isn't as big as Get Ready used to be for immature teenagers, but big for real music lovers. Now, to make this review a little different than our other reviews, here is the selection of fine tracks in order of our appreciation. The killer track, that is, the track that will take your breath, ears and stomach at the same time is without a doubt Black Mighty Wax and "Keep on loving on". Sure, it has that traditional styled soullike r&b touch, but the strong deep bass and warm synth effects hint at the deeper side of "Keep on loving on". There is that delicate mindblowing embedded bassguitar riff and strong female vocal touch. Yes, it's a timeless classy track. The runner up for the killer track is "Jackie" by Bossa Nostra feat. Bruna Lopez. More warm brazil summer vibes but it's mostly that fuzzy dreamy female voice that make it stand out. Yes, we are used to superb fine tracks from AtJazz and here is yet one more : "Open a Window". Don't dare to think about crashing software for dummies when watching this title ! No, this is a window opener to warm laidback but rock solid chillout vibes. It's slow paced, features a warm bassline and a conga like sound adds to the full atmospheric touch of this track. Ok, so far for the finest tracks of Chill Out Cafe, but that's not all. In Da Gladiaz and "Safara", Ohm Guru and "Shaping Lights", Cybophonia and "Tribute" or Voo Doo Phunk and "New Love" are one for one well worth this great chillout compilation. So, all great for this fine selection of loungy vibes, but what's missing? Sunshine of course and inviting country roads to drive topdown with girlfriend and enjoy life ! ez may/2000 |
