Groove Collective
Declassified
1x CD Shanachie
Can we bring something else for a change ? Yeps, sure, real acoustic soul, funk, hiphop and r'n'b. Groove Collective does it all ! "Up all night" is such a typical beast. It's funky, has a little touch of Zapp, some Earth Wind & Fire ingredients, some Zahne vocals, in an overall funky party atmosphere. Nice for sure. "Everything is changing" is the killer track of the album. Already released on 12", this is incredibly hot! It's an uptempo jazzfunker, with infectious bassline. This is the original version which adds the funky vocals as well. It's spacey, it's disco, it's funky, yeah, it's dancefloor ready. More interesting stuff, but completely different comes with "Some People", exploring the more bossa, latin side of grooves. "Undercover life" has the house/garage touch but keeps enough funk into it to make it interesting. "Crisis" sets us in a completely different mood with more traditional styled smooth jazzfunk in real mid seventies vein. And that's not all for the styles Groove Collective is exploring! The direction goes more into jazzrock for "Nature of a freak". Not really our thing, but well, it's there. As well as the more r'n'b, soul shaped "Martha my dear". Although, the album is a nice offering, we found the difference between the superb "Everything is changing" and the other tracks, rather much. In contrast to the first 2 tracks, the album is a little disappointing. Good ideas, nicely worked out, but missing that little extra touch the first 2 tracks have. Check it out, and see what youthink about it.
