Ascendants : MoonRise (Nuphonic) full brass, strings, horns, jam to go wild. (see review) 2) House of 909 : City to city (Expanded Soul) Finally some early House of 909 style sound, nice EP from which we picked this track. 3) The persuader : Stureplan (Svek) Super funked up jammin' bassline 4) Extended Spirit : Caprice (Sonar kollective) From what we heard from Extended Spirit so far, they produce fantastic music! Another great track. 5) The mood man : Lumpkins groove (Tony V's interlude) (I records) Very moody percussion and jazz influenced deephouze 6) Taurus : Together (ClairAudience) Very atmospheric and dreamy midtempo deephouze 7) Ron Trent : Kada (Peacefrog) Relaxing future jazz beats 8) Lay & Quackerman : Former glory (Fiasco) Yes, it's a revisited old skool track, but which one ? 9) Mettle Music Collective : Heavens gate (Toko) Filtered atmospheric dancefloor deephouze 10) Froggy's congaz : Matty's (Chez) Nice groovin' deephouzer |

Features "Poo Poo La La" the funniest funk-track I've ever heard. 3) Fatback Keep On Steppin' (Ace 1974) Bill Curtis & Co did a great job with this one. An essential album when it comes to slow funky jams. 4) Brass Construction I (UA 1975) I guess "Movin' On" is the only track that's in posession of each and every serious Funk-lover. 5) Roy Ayers Let's Do It (Polydor 1978) Contains "Freaky Deaky" & the original version of "Sweet Tears", need I say more? |

Outspan real name: Roel Derudder a.k.a.: Rebel, Jay or Hey e-mail: outspan@iname.com |
| Rebel's quest for old-skool joy in contemporary grooves | |
| Prof. Crocker : "Ah, mr. Outspan, please have a seat and pick a question." [outspan picks card and shows it to professor] Prof. Crocker : "Hmm, hmm... Yes, yes. Mr. Outspan, can you tell me the exact number of decent deep house tracks we discussed last month and explain in deep why these tracks live up to the Freestyle standards ?" Outspan : "Well, hum, the Freestyle standards are freshness, fatness, smoothness,... Prof. Crocker (interrupts Outspan) : "Yes, yes, I know all that, mr. Outspan, just tell me the number, please." Outspan : "Euhn...euhm... None ?" Prof. Crocker : "Correct, mr. Outspan. I am pleased to see that you were not tricked by this question. The exact number is zero, nada, niente, nothing. You may leave, you have passed for the course '70s Funk Foundations in Contemporary Deep House History'. Have fun during the holidays." Outspan : "Thank you, professor, stay fresh." |
